IMF: some central banks ‘on the verge’ of piloting CBDCs

IMF survey also highlights need for greater co-operation on fintech regulation

The International Monetary Fund has found that around 20% of jurisdictions are “exploring the possibility” of issuing a central bank digital currency (CBDC), with some already beginning on a limited scale. 

The IMF and World Bank recently published a survey of 96 central banks, finance ministries and other relevant agencies on questions around fintech.
